Tonight was Cooper's first swim class! We signed him up to take the Skips class at the YMCA on Tuesday and Thursday nights for the month of February. They canceled the first class last Tuesday because of the snow and then both Cooper and I were out of town for class on Thursday...so tonight was the first one. And he did so well! He loves bath time and to "spash spash spash" (splash) so we were hoping the pool would be just as fun. He was definitely the loudest one in the group--between laughing and some intermittent other noises. He was reluctant to be on his back though. He did end up relaxing for a few minutes of back floating. The class started with the group going around in circles, singing a song, and doing different movements. They sang, "this is how we swim in the pool" "this is how we kick our feet" and "this is how we blow bubbles". Cooper LOVED to blow bubbles and laughed so hard, although his blowing bubbles usually ended in a mouth full of water. This could bite us in the butt though as we are trying to get him to stop drinking his bath water....we'll see if he can tell the difference between blowing bubbles and drinking the water! They spent a good while playing with some water toys, like balls and boats. They practiced floating and swimming around with pool noodles and some other floaties. The highlight for Cooper was definitely "jumping" off the side of the pool. His jump was more of a lean + cautious step into the water, but he wanted to do it over and over again. As soon as he hit the water, he would say, "jump, jump, jump". We are excited to keep going to swim class! And I'm so thankful for Eric who is willingly doing swim class with Cooper :)
