When we bought our new house, we also gained a garden. Let's just say that we don't know a whole lot about gardening...but we are trying to learn! Both of our parents have had gardens and they have been a huge help in trying to identify just what is in there. At our closing, the previous house owner said that she had already planted some things in the garden--like green beans, peas, and beets. Over the past month or so, we have discovered green beans, peas, beets, 3 different types of potatoes, tomatoes, and something that is a vine--which we are letting continue to grow. I guess we will see if it produces anything. It has big leaves and yellow flowers, and in my google research, it looks like it could be pumpkin, squash, or who knows what!
Here are some pictures of the garden and some of our produce. Eric has been diligent in watering, adding some Miracle-Gro, and getting out lots of weeds to clean it up. The more that he has pulled weeds, the more stuff we keep finding.

| Potatoes dug up on Saturday...red, gold, and purple |
We didn't really get any more peas than those first 10 or so. We might have been late in the game on the peas and I know they only produce once. On Saturday, Eric pulled up beets and dug up potatoes. We didn't really know what all was going be down there, but we could visibly see some potatoes in the ground a few weeks ago. He found red, gold, and purple potatoes. I've never had purple potatoes before, so I guess we will see how those are. Eric posted a picture on his facebook and asked about the purple ones, and he got several responses about how good they are, full of antioxidants, etc. He also staked up several of the tomato plants and there are some tiny little green tomatoes starting to form.

And then this is our mystery vine. We actually had some of it in the front too- in just a raised flower bed. The yellow blooms are fairly new (within the last few weeks), but we haven't seen anything else on it. Any gardeners know anything about this?
We are pretty excited about our garden! It will be even better next year once we can spend some time learning how to garden and actually plant what we want in it. It has been nice to reap some of the harvest left in there though! Does anyone have any gardening experience or tips for us? What have been your favorite things to plant? And does anyone know anything about the vine?
